JC Custom Painting recently completed a deck staining and wood repairs project on a 700 sq ft deck in a quiet Gainesville, VA subdivision. Over three days, we repaired damaged areas and brought the wood back to life with two coats of Sherwin-Williams WoodScapes solid stain in a natural cedar tone. The fresh stain gave the deck a rich, even look while also protecting it from the elements.
Background / Story:
The homeowner’s deck had seen better days. It was weathered, a few boards were rotting, and the color was faded. He’d been meaning to get it fixed up for summer but didn’t know who to call—until a neighbor recommended us. After a quick walk-through and quote, we got to work. He wanted something that would last and still look natural, so we suggested the cedar tone for a clean, classic finish.
Scope of Services:
- Wood Repairs: Before we picked up a brush, we tackled the problem areas—replacing rotted boards and reinforcing weak spots to get the surface solid and ready for stain.
- Deck Staining: We applied two full coats of Sherwin-Williams WoodScapes solid stain in natural cedar tone. It soaked in well, giving the deck a warm, even tone while sealing out moisture and sun damage.
- Clean Prep & Finish: We sanded rough edges, cleaned the surface, and made sure the deck was dry before staining. Once complete, we walked the client through the job to make sure everything looked right and felt solid underfoot.

Results:
